During the spring and summer months, the Morongo Preserve and Covington park is beautiful, green and the water helps regulate your core temperature by keeping students cool.
In the lower Riparian zones of the Mojave desert, wild flowers, food, and medicine are abundant and available. In this area you will also hear the sounds of frogs, birds, and dragonflies zipping by. One might think they are on a peaceful vacation at this location.
Southern California has an extensive amount of cultural sites; from Los Angeles to Blythe there are well over 4,000 sites. In every workshop and related class we always discuss the Native cultures and tribes that lived there before and after European contact. You will be amazed by the markings made hundreds- and some over 11,000 years ago.
The Morongo Basin is surrounded by Mountains that hold beautiful scenery, diverse habitats for animals, breathtaking views, and the best part; the smell of fresh pine. When we travel to the pine country it is almost impossible to not take pictures. In traditional times Serrano, and Cahuilla inhabited many areas in these mountains.
Amongst with beautiful wild flowers; the Desert Chaparral is home to lush Juniper trees, Mojave Yucca, Joshua Trees, And the fresh smell of Creosote.
Amongst the trees, mountains, flowers, and beautiful blue skies we might stumble upon wildlife. Mule Deer, Coyote, Fox, Bobcat, Bighorn Sheep, Mountain Lion, and Bear are all residence of the Morongo Basin and surrounding areas.
The smell of Cottonwood and Willow on a brisk morning is almost overwhelming. As you walk through the marsh lands you will feel a deep connection to the earth, and who we really are.
In Joshua Tree California the sight seeing is once again breathtaking. Joshua Tree is being called,”the most unique desert in the United States”. Large Quartz veins, Granite boulders as far as the eye can see, diverse vegetation, and unique wild live makes Joshua Tree truly an amazing place.
